Investing in modern care services
The UHLENHORST care facility with its three buildings entitled Schwanenwik, Alster and Bellevue is located near the Aussenalster Lake. It was built a good 20 years ago and so there is no real need for refurbishment now. However, as that the operator “PFLEGEN & WOHNEN HAMBURG GmbH” has launched an investment drive for its “Initiative for Future Care” to adapt its services to the changing needs of elderly people in what will initially be five care facilities in Hamburg, the UHLENHORST site is also being expanded and modernised. The concept of “service living”, for example, accommodates people’s desire to live independently in their own accessible homes for as long as possible. Good news for PORR Hochbau Region North: A general contractor agreement has already been signed for a second “Initiative Zukunftspflege” (Initiative Future Care) project, which will see the construction of a new care facility in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg.
Extension with rooftop garden for people with dementia
Work on the UHLENHORST site began on Building 1 (Schwanenwik) with the conversion of the inpatient care unit. With the exception of a few rooms for couples, the unit will offer only single rooms. The north and east façades will be removed, the north side of the building will be enlarged and, with the exception of the administrative wing, extended by a fifth floor. The garden of the residential unit for people with dementia will be given a new home on the rooftop of the administration wing. Since the basement houses the electricity, water, district heating, IT and telephone connections for all the buildings, it is important to ensure continued operation while the conversion work is being carried out. After the residents have moved in, the Alster and Bellevue buildings will be converted and offered as service living/living plus flats.
