Career built by PORR: Cheers to our commercial trainee Caterina.

Caterina values versatility, and this was also very important to her when choosing her career. That's why she started an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk at PORR's Münster branch in 2020. Her excellent final exams and her enthusiasm for the industry show that she made the right decision.

Caterina completed her apprenticeship as an industrial clerk at PORR with flying colours and passed her final exam in January 2023 with the grade "Very good".  In October 2023, Caterina was honoured for her outstanding achievements by the IHK Nord Westfalen at the training centre in Münster. Together with 114 other graduates from various professions and companies, she proudly accepted her well-deserved award.

We met up with Caterina and asked her a few interesting questions:

What does a typical working day look like when training to be an industrial clerk?

A typical working day in my apprenticeship as an industrial clerk is extremely varied and diverse. You mainly work in various commercial departments such as accounting, human resources, purchasing and insurance. Not only are you taught theoretical knowledge, but you also have the opportunity to gain practical experience. For example, I spent two months at a time on a construction site to gain an insight into the commercial processes there too.

What have been the highlights of your career so far?

The highlights so far include being taken on by PORR after my apprenticeship and being offered a job in the HR department. My interest in HR became clear during my apprenticeship and it's great that I was given the opportunity to stay in this area. Another personal highlight was the successful completion of my apprenticeship, which I was delighted about.

What do you like best about your job?

The variety makes my job very exciting. I am not tied to a fixed routine and have the opportunity to develop personally. I am supported in this by the company and my superiors. The good working atmosphere in my team has also helped me to feel at ease right from the start.

I'm also fascinated by the construction industry - the uniqueness of the construction projects automatically gets you out of the daily grind.

How do you relax after a long day at work?

To switch off after a long day, I start by listening to good music in the car. I like to watch sporting events such as football, football and Formula 1. I also enjoy playing badminton and meeting up with friends after work. Sometimes I also go for a walk, especially if I've been sitting in the office all day.

Do you have any tips for effective learning?

I think it's important to actively participate in lessons and to prepare and follow up on topics. It's best to start learning early. Then you are simply best prepared.
