BauBeCon Wohnwerte GmbH is developing the new urban residential area of Schützengarten just outside the historic centre of Dresden, which is home to the famous Zwinger Palace and the Semperoper opera house.

BauBeCon Wohnwerte GmbH has appointed PORR Building Construction East as its main contractor tasked with the turnkey construction of 23 residential buildings in 13 stages. The development will include 479 apartments, commercial space for restaurants, offices and shops, and three underground car parks with 193 spaces. PORR Spezialtiefbau GmbH was responsible for the specialist civil engineering work.

The Schützengarten district: Green and family friendly

Over the next few years, BauBeCon Wohnwerte will build a completely new landmark residential district. This new district will be known as Schützengarten, which means shooting grounds, a name chosen because the area was used for royal shooting parties up to the 19th century.

This new development by BauBeCon Wohnwerte will create urgently needed residential space in Saxony's growing capital. The new urban residential district will offer a green, family-friendly environment. The four- to seven-storey residential blocks will enclose three spacious green courtyard areas.

A sustainable construction project

PORR undertook the extensive work to demolish the existing 1980s buildings in 2018. The demolished buildings included two eight-storey office blocks, a former canteen in a flat-roofed building, and a bunker that was built during the Cold War era. With sustainable construction in mind, the concrete from the demolished buildings will be broken up and reused in the new building work.
