Residential and hotel complex in HafenCity

Part of the development in the Baakenhafen quarter

Campus Futura was built in the Baakenhafen quarter of Hamburg’s HafenCity. The complex of buildings reflects the planned mix of residential, work and leisure uses in the area, combining hotel, residential and commercial spaces in a single location. It comprises a seven-storey youth and family hotel with 220 rooms, a restaurant with a roof terrace, 19 owner-occupied flats as well as twelve commercial units on the ground floor and the embankment level. The hotel and residential buildings share a two-storey underground car park with 116 parking spaces.

Building in the Elbe floodplain

The planning work included, amongst other things, the building envelope and building services, as well as measures necessitated by the site’s location within HafenCity. The embankment and basement levels are situated within the Elbe floodplain. The associated structural requirements for the site were taken into account during both the planning and construction phases.

Planning and execution within the PORR Group

Several companies and units within the PORR Group collaborated on the project. pde Integrale Planung GmbH was responsible for the planning, whilst building construction was carried out by PORR’s building construction Nord division. As the main contractor, PORR managed the project from the planning stage through to turnkey handover.

Awards for Campus Futura

Campus Futura received the German Design Award 2020 for its architecture. In addition, the project was awarded the HafenCity Hamburg GmbH (HCH) Environmental Label in gold. Both awards recognise different aspects of the completed building complex.

A variety of uses in Baakenhafen

Campus Futura has created spaces in the Baakenhafen quarter for accommodation, residential living, catering and commercial buildings, all in one location. The complex thus complements the residential, working and leisure facilities in this part of Hamburg’s HafenCity.
