As the six-lane expansion of the A8 motorway between Pforzheim-Nord and Pforzheim-Süd is taking place in parallel, it is the main construction project that sets the pace. And so, once the first bridge arch was safely resting on its 12-metre-high shoring, the bridge construction work could be continued after a planned break of several months. Each half-arch is being constructed in six concreting sections. For the final concreting of the 1.5 m wide gap closure, hydraulic presses will raise the two bridge sections by 2 to 6 cm. Construction of the green bridge is scheduled for completion in mid-2025.
The construction site is located in the northern Black Forest in a wildlife corridor of international importance. Enabling endangered wildlife species to move freely within their natural habitats is essential for their conservation. The 64 m long and 53 m wide integral arch bridge will allow them to cross the A8 motorway safely in future. Once completed, it will also provide a safe habitat for numerous regional animal and plant species.
