The DGNB has been successfully certifying the sustainability of buildings and neighbourhoods for years. In 2021, the "Sustainable Building Site" certificate was introduced, which focuses on the entire construction process. In particular, the criteria of construction site organisation, resource protection, health & social issues and quality of the construction site are examined intensively. But that's not all: in order to take into account not only structural engineering with the certificate, the BFA Spezialtiefbau of BAUINDUSTRIE, an association of the leading German foundation engineering companies, and the DGNB developed a targeted certification of sustainability for the services of foundation engineering. This includes, among other things, the production of foundations, deep foundations, excavation pits, anchorages for buildings, engineering and infrastructure structures or energy plants. In a 2-year work process - based on the existing certificate "Sustainable Construction Site" - a specific certificate for services in special civil engineering was developed. Seven member companies of the BFA Spezialtiefbau were actively involved in the process - among them Stump-Franki Spezialtiefbau. In the so-called 1st pilot phase, the criteria were tested and modified at 13 foundation engineering construction sites of different sizes, construction methods and complexity at the end of 2022. The 2nd pilot phase now forms the conclusion of the project. In this phase, one construction site per participating company will be certified or pre-certified.
DGNB certificate for special civil engineering construction site in Straubing
The successful completion of the project phases was crowned with the award of the first certificates or pre-certificates "Sustainable Construction Site - Special Civil Engineering" on 14 June in Berlin with the participation of Christian Lindner, Federal Minister of Finance, Michael Kellner, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection, and Klara Geywitz, Federal Minister of Construction. From now on, the DGNB certification is available to all interested building owners and construction companies. Stump-Franki received a pre-certificate with a very good result for the construction site at Straubing harbour, where sheet pile reinforcement with grouted anchors is being carried out.
For Stump-Franki, the new certification is another step in the right direction: sustainability in foundation engineering and the "green construction site" have long been a central concern of the company. In 2019, for example, the biological soft gel developed by Stump-Franki in a research project was approved for use in Germany. The company is continuously working on new solutions and optimised processes in order to meet its social responsibility in terms of sustainability.
