Reconstruction and new building of the Monheimer Tor in full swing

The city of Monheim is investing a total of about 320 million euros to make its centre more attractive, taking into account the wishes and suggestions of its citizens. After the reconstruction of the Rathauscenter, the modernisation measures for the reconstruction and new construction of the Monheimer Tor are now underway. The Baumberger Einkaufzentrum GmbH (BEZ), as the client, is awarding the turnkey services in individual lots. The Oevermann Hochbau branch in Düsseldorf was commissioned with the demolition and shell construction work.

For several years, the Monheimer Tor has been an important part of the local supply in the heart of Monheim. Together with the Rathauscenter and Eierplatz, the conversion will create a new, modern shopping quarter. Here, customers will find everything under one roof: from groceries to clothing and shoes to a wide range of services.

The current gross floor area will be expanded from 9,596 m² to a total of 38,480 m². A hotel and a cinema (Haus am Platz) will be integrated into the existing building as new buildings, and the parking areas will be considerably enlarged with the construction of the new "PARK-Haus" to the new main entrance from the Berliner Viertel side. The retail rental areas will also be expanded by approx. 30 %.

Special challenges. Due to the inner-city location and the associated limited access roads as well as the narrow construction site areas, the project requires a great deal of logistical effort. The employees of PORR Oevermann have many years of experience with such demanding projects and these are the best prerequisites for realising the construction work to the satisfaction of the client.

Efficiency and adherence to schedules.  Due to the professional competence and good communication between the parties involved, the structural engineering team convinced the client and was awarded the contract in September 2022. The first construction works were started on schedule in October 2022. The conversion measures are to be realised by March 2024.
