On-time completion of Berlin's new TechnoCampus building

The PORR Building Construction eastern region made a precision landing on the TechnoCampus Berlin site: Two 7-story office buildings and an underground parking garage were completed on schedule on January 25, 2022 and accepted by the client on March 9, 2022. The 3-story parking garage with open parking deck and airy expanded metal facade, also built under the JV contract, has already been in operation since 2020.

The incipient "peripheral migration" of the Berlin Siemens Group toward Charlottenburg and Spandau lasted about 30 years. By 1930, more than 65,000 people were working in the "Siemensstadt". The sheer scale of the new district, with its distinctive, functional brick architecture and modern factory housing, caused an international sensation.

Wernerwerk XV", built at Spandauer Siemensdamm 59-63 between 1924 and 1925 under the direction of Siemens building architect Hans Hertlein, is one of the style-defining buildings for the New Objectivity. The purpose-built steel skeleton structure does without any ornamentation and its red clinker brick facades are structured only by the rows of windows. Following extensive revitalization, the listed building forms the heart of the TechnoCampus. Two new buildings with 16,625 m2 and 6,918 m2 GFA, designed by the Tchoban Voss office, expand the campus area to around 60,000 m2. Inner courtyards with green spaces and terraces invite for relaxation breaks and outdoor meetings.

Between December 2019 and January 2022, the two commercial buildings with underground parking and parking garage were safely realized by PORR Hochbau Ost. The new construction was completed on time on January 25, 2022, with client acceptance on March 9, 2022, and the outdoor facilities will be completed by the end of April 2022.

New buildings pay respect to existing architecture

With their reduced formal language, the gray, clearly structured clinker facade and floor heights of up to 4.25 m, the new buildings pay homage to Hertlein's forward-looking style. The 7-story new building F is complemented by a 3-story angled annex. The L-shaped new building E encloses with two old buildings a large campus courtyard under which the 1-story underground parking garage with 177 parking spaces was built. An earth cover of 60cm was the basis for a lush greenery.

In addition to the structural engineering team, the experts from Stump-Franki for special civil engineering as well as sustainable building planning within the PORR Group were also deployed at Siemensdamm. Due to high building protection requirements and partly heavy soil loads, the colleagues from Stump-Franki Spezialtiefbau produced 997 low-vibration Atlas piles for the deep foundation without drilling. Stump-Franki Planung had taken over the execution statics and pile planning, pde Integrale Planung carried out the audit for the DGNB Platinum certification.
