Bypasses bring long-awaited relief
Long planned, the expansion of the Saxon state road 177 is increasingly taking shape. Once completed, it will bypass Dresden in the east over a length of 33 km and connect the BAB 4 motorway with the BAB 17 motorway. The aim is to improve accessibility to the Saxon Switzerland tourist region as well as to relieve congestion along the existing route.
In particular, the start of construction of the 5.6 km long section of the Wünschendorf/Eschbach bypass had been eagerly awaited by local residents. In addition to the road construction work, the construction project includes 13 bridges, 5 rainwater retention basins and a cut-off walls.
PORR special civil engineering scores with quality and adherence to deadlines
After special civil engineering had already carried out the pile foundation of bridge structure 7 over the Rossendorfer Wasser on the outskirts of Eschdorf for the Meißen Swietelsky branch in 2022, the two companies also worked together on the neighbouring bridge structure 6 over the Schullwitzbach. Frankipile NG® piles were used in both cases. Thanks to the small pile diameter, they represent a particularly economical foundation solution for the customer. The test loads carried out on BW 7 also served the client as the basis for the structural analysis of the current bridge structure.
The special civil engineering team produced a total of 38 Frankipile NG® piles with a diameter of 61 cm and lengths of up to 15 m for the foundations of the bridge abutments. As the subsoil in the area where the piles were installed proved to have insufficient load-bearing capacity, pre-compacting the gravel was necessary before the pile base was constructed. In order not to jeopardise the water quality of the nearby Schullwitzbach stream, the team worked under particularly stringent environmental protection requirements.
