On 24 April 2023, the foundation stone for the Neckartalbrücke Horb was laid in a ceremony.  The official start of construction of the elevated bridge in the course of the B 32 bypass in Horb was celebrated in the presence of leading federal and state politicians. On behalf of the federal government, represented by the Karlsruhe regional council of the state of Baden-Württemberg, PORR is building the Horb elevated bridge section of the B 32 over the Neckar valley in a joint venture with its subsidiary Stump-Franki Spezialtiefbau until 2026.

The laying of the foundation stone was attended by District President of the Karlsruhe Regional Council Sylvia M. Felder, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport Michael Theurer, Minister of Transport Winfried Hermann, Lord Mayor of the town of Horb Peter Rosenberger and representatives of the client and PORR. In the speeches, the importance of the future Neckar Valley Bridge for the region and its infrastructure was emphasised. In Horb, the B32 currently runs from the B28/B32 junction down to the core town and back up to Nordstetten, which is associated with a high traffic load. In future, through traffic can travel over the new Neckartal bridge - without affecting the city centre. The political actors filled a time capsule with their wishes and everyday objects, such as small change, a daily newspaper and a Polaroid photo. The mayor of Horb also enclosed the resolution of the municipal council of the town of Horb a. N., which had pre-financed the planning costs with one million D-marks at the time. The time capsule is concreted into the abutment on the Nordstetten side and is to send peaceful greetings into the future.

Start of construction for civil engineering and special foundation work

At the beginning of the year, the construction site for the construction of the Neckar valley viaduct was set up and the first preliminary construction measures on the abutment of axis 70 have already been carried out. With the laying of the foundation stone, the concrete work for the construction of the axis 60 pier is now starting, followed by the bored pile foundation for the axis 50 pier from May. When planning the bridge, the focus was not only on functionality but also on an attractive appearance.

A project with impressive dimensions

With a length of 667 m, the Horb elevated bridge will stretch across the Neckar valley. The bridge structure, which is up to 90 metres high including pylons, is designed as a six-span continuous girder. The three central of the five bridge piers are designed as pylons with a V-shaped extension above the roadway and the adjacent spans are each braced with stay cables. The foundation of the piers is mainly carried out by means of large drilled piles with a diameter of 1.50 metres and a length of up to 40 metres.
