Further training for safety experts at PORR and its subsidiaries

Knowledge transfer, constant exchange and internal training are among the core measures to sensitise employees to the topic of occupational safety. From 11 to 13 July, PORR's occupational safety department in Germany, headed by Björn Kass, organised a training course for safety specialists at the Berufsgenossenschaftliche Bildungsstätte in Bad Münder. Colleagues from a wide range of PORR business units as well as from the subsidiary BBGS came together to deal intensively with the topic of occupational safety for three days. The event was supported by two external lecturers from the Employer's Liability Insurance Association for the Construction Industry (BG Bau).

Safety specialists are employed at PORR to ensure that topics relating to occupational safety are brought to the attention of employees in the individual business units and subsidiaries, that they are continuously promoted and that a regular exchange of knowledge takes place. Accordingly, the training in Bad Münder was aimed at the thematic focal points of didactic further training (how can training content be meaningfully conveyed in instruction), current topics of occupational health and safety (how is the Occupational Health and Safety Act correctly implemented and what responsibilities do managers bear as part of the "line") and a professional exchange of experience.

The first training day started on 11 July after a joint lunch: Susanne Schlagner, Education Department of BG Bau, provided impulses and methods for didactics. This was followed in the evening by an interdisciplinary thematic exchange of experience between the participants and the speaker with a view to practical implementation. The next morning, Volker Sinnhuber, supervisor of BG Bau, continued the programme: he presented current legal cases of violations against the Occupational Health and Safety Act and showed approaches on how safety specialists can support PORR employees in correct implementation. Afterwards, the correct use of work equipment, such as scaffolding, ladders, cherry pickers, etc., was considered and discussed. The second day was also lively with exciting and real practical examples. The training was concluded on the third day with an intensive exchange about future contents and the implementation potential on the construction sites of the PORR units in Germany.

The participants agree that the event was a success in terms of content. In particular, the impulses and methods for didactics were felt to be very target-oriented for future activities.
