Ceremonial completion of tunnel driving in the Stuttgart21 project

The ATCOST21 consortium (Austrian Tunneling Consortium Stuttgart 21 - PORR/Hinteregger/Östu-Stettin/Swietelsky) has already been working on the Stuttgart21 project for 11 years under the decisive leadership of PORR. The core of the project is the reorganization of the Stuttgart rail junction with an underground through station and long tunnels as access routes in the Stuttgart urban area. In total, more than 51 km of tunnels have been excavated in the Stuttgart urban area by the various tunnel builders - more than 31 km of which were driven by the ATCOST21 consortium under the management of PORR. We were the first to start driving work at the end of October 2013 and have now put the final exclamation mark in August with the last successful breakthrough.

On October 5, 2022, the official ceremonial completion of tunneling work in the Stuttgart basin took place on the tunnel route from the main station to Obertürkheim and into the Neckar valley (Lot 1B). In their speeches, high-ranking representatives of DB AG, the state of Baden-Württemberg and the European Union paid tribute to the extraordinary achievement of the construction work. In his speech, CEO Karl Heinz Strauss emphasized the partnership-based project management with DB, the high-quality execution and adherence to schedules, as well as the high level of commitment shown by the employees of the joint venture in implementing the major project over a very long period of time.

The interior work on the remaining tunnel sections will continue until 2024, when another PORR project milestone will be completed. Following in the footsteps of the tunnel builders, PORR railroad construction is already carrying out the railroad engineering expansion in the entire Stuttgart railroad junction as a further milestone for PORR. For PORR, this project is one of the largest and technically most challenging projects in the company's history.
