With the planned low-emission operation, the project sets new climate-friendly standards in the road maintenance service: With the help of a heat generation system based on a pellet heating system, the low-CO₂ operation of the Michendorf motorway maintenance office is promoted. The wood pellets for firing are produced from natural, regional raw materials in Brandenburg. The electricity is generated from the sun. A photovoltaic system and electrical storage media are used for this purpose.
Creating the infrastructure with traffic route construction know-how
The demanding construction project is being realised by the traffic route construction experts from the Berlin branch. The work includes the connection to the public road and path network as well as to the supply and disposal network by means of the construction of drinking water, sewage and rainwater pipes. This also includes the local heating lines. In addition, the telecommunications systems are being extended. In addition to the earthworks, the experienced team will also construct the bound and unbound base courses. The respective surface finish for the traffic and service areas will be done in asphalt and concrete construction. The parking spaces and walkways will be paved.
Construction progress during ongoing operations
The construction of the infiltration trenches with the necessary shoring was completed by winter due to space constraints, as the operation of the motorway maintenance depot must not be impaired. Preparations for the concrete construction are currently underway, such as kerbing work, excavation of the traffic areas, replacement of soil if necessary, and installation of the unbound base layers. From April, the first concrete application will take place on an area of approx. 4,000 m².
Close coordination ensures smooth construction progress
A lot has happened since the start of construction one and a half years ago. On 13 February 2023, the topping-out ceremony was held for the buildings of the 1st construction phase (salt hall, small warehouse, operations building and large motor vehicle hall). The parallel activities of building construction and traffic route construction require precise coordination and close coordination with the entire building construction trades.
Furthermore, a new connection to the B2 federal road and a cycle path running alongside it will be newly constructed. Completion of the project is scheduled for 2024.
