With a length of 77 metres and a weight of 500 tons, the fourth and last bridge section of the South Bridge moved in slow motion over the Salzbach Valley into its final position. The bridging was celebrated together with representatives of the Autobahn GmbH of the federal government, the press and the ARGE partner Plauen Stahl Technologie GmbH. The milestone was thus reached two weeks ahead of schedule. With the primary customer requirement of adherence to deadlines firmly in mind, the construction site team is working step by step towards safe and economical completion. "We work here as a team of equals. The cooperation with Autobahn GmbH as the client and our ARGE partner works smoothly hand in hand - that's fun and the result shows that we are shoulder to shoulder and passionate about what we do," says Markus Jahn, project manager.
Construction site a prime example of occupational safety in action
The more complex and larger a construction project, the higher the risk of accidents on the construction site. The Salzbachtal Bridge project shows that this thesis does not have to be true: the construction site was accident-free for 426 days at the time the bridge was built - even without a single cut. This only works because occupational health and safety is understood as a common value by the entire construction site team and is exemplified by the site management with exemplary behaviour.
The next steps
After the bridge has been built, the team is working flat out on the next steps. These include the dismantling of the cantilever, the construction of the superstructure slab and the approach of the outdoor connection to the bridge. The goal is firmly in sight for all measures: By the end of December, traffic should be rolling over the Salzbachtal Bridge again.
