Energy saving in asphalt paving with low-temperature asphalt

Significant pavement damage required renewal and reinforcement of the asphalt on the B115 in Groß Kölzig (Brandenburg). On behalf of the Landesbetriebs Straßenwesen Brandenburg, the Berlin branch carried out this work in a joint venture on a test section for the use of temperature-reduced rolled asphalt. The special feature: The use of low-temperature asphalt in conventional and compact construction saved energy and CO2. Longitudinal and transverse cracks, ruts and cracking of the asphalt on the federal roads 115 in the south of Brandenburg are now a thing of the past. Between July and September 2022, the Berlin road construction specialists rehabilitated the section of road between the junction in the direction of Groß Kölzig to the Jocksdorf junction in a joint venture.

Sustainability in asphalt road construction

The asphalt was laid using low-temperature asphalts in a conventional and compact construction method with the InLine Pave method.

Here, the paving was carried out in a particularly economical manner. The method increases the longevity of the road with a stable bond between binder and surface course. The use of low-temperature asphalt saves energy and releases fewer emissions. At the same time, it the same performance as conventional asphalt.

Quality controls and adherence to deadlines

Special procedures are subject to special controls: Aerosol measurements, thermoscans, Troxler measurements and the area-wide dynamic compaction control ensured flawless quality assurance during the construction work on the B115. The schedule was always adhered to.
