Furnished micro-apartments for students and trainees

PORR as main contractor served as a central contact partner for International Campus GmbH in all matters relating to the planning and construction of Hamburg residential complex “The Fizz”. A total of 777 furnished apartments for students, trainees and young professionals have been constructed on an approx. 7,500m2 site in the Stresemannquartier. PORR demonstrated its comprehensive range of services on The Fizz project: PORR subsidiary pde Integrale Planung GmbH was responsible for planning, the building construction department of PORR’s northern regional branch accepted responsibility for the construction execution, and H+E Haustechnik und Elektro GmbH, also a subsidiary of PORR, conducted the planning and realisation of the mechanical and electrical engineering.

The micro-living concept: carefree comfort and convenience

The Fizz exemplifies the innovative concept of micro-living, a newcomer to the range of student housing options in many major cities. Rent an apartment online, move in and feel right at home – and your fixed rent covers incidental expenses, security services, building manager, library, study room, shared kitchen, gaming room, fitness room and roof terrace. Studio apartments with bathroom and kitchenette range in size from XS to XL. Nor do residents have to worry about bicycle theft, as the basement floor contains 140 car and approx. 500 bicycle parking spaces. The ground floor of the building also contains a supermarket, a chemist and a restaurant, guaranteeing local sources of supply.

Stylish liveability

The district around Hamburg’s Stresemannstrasse is a colourful, flourishing mixed-use area containing many multi-storey houses dating back to the Gruenderzeit period in the late nineteenth century. To help the new student accommodation facility to blend into the streetscape, the architectural design features a three-part façade in place of a solid block building with a uniform façade concept. The roof area is literally pleated, reflecting the small units of existing constructions.

Efficiency improved by LEAN construction

This project only allowed a small area for site facilities and a delivery zone. Moreover, the site is adjacent to two very busy roads, Stresemannstrasse and Kieler Strasse. PORR experts were therefore required to bring their experience of LEAN standards to bear on the digital schedule and cycle planning and the logistical control of the construction site.
