Dresden, 25.05.2021 – Deutsche Wohnen’s new urban residential district “Schützengarten” will be built immediately adjacent to Dresden’s historic centre that includes the famous Dresden Zwinger and the Semperoper. Deutschen Wohnen Construction and Facilities GmbH has commissioned PORR Hochbau Ost as the general contractor for the turnkey construction of 23 residential buildings in 13 pre-building stages. 479 homes, commercial space for restaurants, offices and stores, and three underground car parks with 193 parking spaces are being built. Stump-Franki Spezialtiefbau GmbH, a subsidiary of PORR, is taking on the specialist foundation engineering. The demolition work has already been carried out. The first groundbreaking ceremony occurred on 19 May.

The Schützengarten district: green and family-friendly

In the next few years, Deutsche Wohnen will build a completely new, centrally located landmark residential district: the Schützengarten. The name of the new district refers to its original use for royal shooting clubs until the nineteenth century. With the new construction, Deutsche Wohnen is creating urgently needed residential space in Saxony’s growing capital city. This residential space will be green and family-friendly in the form of the new urban residential district. Three generous, interior courtyards planted with greenery will be constructed within the 4- to 7-storey block perimeter development.

Sustainable construction project

The existing building development from the 80s was torn down at great cost by PORR in 2018. This included two eight-storey office buildings, a former cafeteria in a low-rise building, and a bunker built during the Cold War era. In the spirit of sustainable construction, the concrete parts gained from the demolition will be crushed and used in new buildings. With the groundbreaking ceremony having taken place, the construction project will take shape again. Completion is planned for 2024.
