Munich, 18 August 2016 – MGO I + II Development GmbH & Co. KG, project companies that are part of Münchner Grund Immobilien Bauträger GmbH, have hired PORR Deutschland as the general contractor to build the “Zalando Headquarters” in the Berlin district of Friedrichshain/Kreuzberg. Zalando, Europe’s leading online fashion platform, will be the main tenant of the two buildings, which will boast total office space of around 42,000m². Work will begin in September 2016, with a planned construction period of just 24 months.
“The innovative Zalando headquarters is an important tender for PORR in Germany. It gives us the opportunity to showcase our complete service range in building construction: from general planning through to turnkey construction”, said Karl-Heinz Strauss, CEO of PORR. PORR has already realised the two projects HOTEL + OFFICE CAMPUS Berlin and Arena Boulevard at the so-called Anschutz-Areal. The general planner for the “Zalando Headquarters” is PORR Design & Engineering.
The “Zalando Headquarters”
Until now the company’s individual departments have been split across the city and they will now be brought together in the new corporate headquarters, right beside the Mercedes Benz Arena. The creative and expressive office complex will consist of two new buildings with office space of around 28,700m² and 13,300m² respectively and offer attractive, modern, flexible workplaces for up to 2,700 employees. The impressive design by the HENN architects took first place in the competition. In their concept they have reinterpreted the typical Berlin perimeter block in the floor plans of the building. Here the inner courtyards back onto the outer edges of the plot and create an opening between the offices and the public space. Further inner and outer views come from the combination of transparent and translucent facades. In this way, the architects are projecting the corporate identity of Zalando onto the cityscape.
