Baumberger Einkaufszentrum GmbH (BEZ) is acting as the client and has commissioned the Düsseldorf building construction branch with the demolition and shell construction work for the three components. In terms of traffic engineering, a new multi-storey car park with 240 parking spaces will also be built to improve the infrastructure, for which the supporting structure of the ground floor zone will be constructed in in-situ concrete as a new entrance to the shopping centre. Construction started on schedule in October 2022 and the extensive renovation work is scheduled for completion in summer 2024, giving the town of Monheim a new, contemporary centre for shopping, entertainment and accommodation. The cinema will follow in autumn 2024 and the Holiday Inn hotels will welcome guests from spring 2025.
The festive atmosphere at the topping-out ceremony was emphasised by the magnificent topping-out wreath hovering high above the construction site. Colourful ribbons fluttered in the wind and balloons created a cheerful atmosphere. The town of Monheim is investing a total of around 320 million euros in the town centre redevelopment project to make the town centre more attractive in line with the wishes and suggestions of its residents. The Monheimer Tor project is part of a comprehensive modernisation initiative that has already begun with the conversion of the Rathauscenter.
