After more than 115 years of operation, it was time to give the Horchheim Tunnel a major update. We completely modernised the venerable structure - from the concrete floor to the portals.
Special attention was paid to environmental protection and nature conservation. Wherever the planned construction work meant that interference with nature was unavoidable, compensation work was carried out.
"Setbacks and surprises - the renovation of the tunnel was a real challenge. But with determination and team spirit, we overcame all the hurdles," says site manager Tobias Kettler.
