Efficient power plant dismantling with state-of-the-art demolition excavator

A new, 175-tonne large machine, supplied by Kiesel GmbH, has recently been supporting PORR Becker Abbruchtechnik GmbH, a subsidiary of PORR, in the dismantling of the Voerde power plant on the Lower Rhine. The demolition excavator from KTEG GmbH, which has been christened ‘Cleopatra’, ensures efficiency and flexibility on the construction site.

The reorganisation of the energy supply in Germany requires the dismantling of old coal-fired power plants. PORR Becker Abbruchtechnik GmbH is taking on this important task. The new demolition excavator from KTEG GmbH is being used in the Voerde power plant dismantling project to maximise performance. The state-of-the-art machine enables the use of a 12-tonne concrete clamp or a 10-tonne scrap shear at a working height of up to 28 metres. Thanks to the quick-change system for attachments and the boom change system, the demolition excavator can be used flexibly in a wide variety of scenarios.

The dismantling of the power plant involves 5 million cubic metres of enclosed space and more than 100,000 tonnes of steel that need to be moved. With ‘Cleopatra’, PORR Becker Abbruchtechnik GmbH is ensuring that the demolition is carried out efficiently and in a way that conserves resources. A major advantage: the number of equipment and transport operations required is significantly reduced, which brings ecological benefits in particular.
