Production Facility for High Energy Photonics
PORR has built a state-of-the-art research campus for Siemens Healthineers in Forchheim. With a total volume of 350 million euros, the project is the largest investment in a new building in the history of Siemens Healthineers. The High Energy Photonics (HEP) Center houses both research and development and the production of medical technology components for computed tomography and X-ray procedures. As a design-build contractor, PORR Industriebau was responsible for the entire process from planning to completion of the forward-looking project.
The building has to meet high structural dynamics requirements with regard to the production of medical devices. The new factory is fully digitally networked and features highly automated systems that help to reduce production costs, increase product quality and provide sufficient capacity for further growth
The realisation was carried out according to the latest Siemens standards and environmental criteria. The research campus was implemented using the LEAN approach. pde Integrale Planung, a PORR subsidiary, took on the BIM coordination and supported the building certification according to LEED Silver. The construction process was supported by drone surveys, the intelligent linking of 3D models and 2D details, and the corresponding simulations. This documentation ensures sustainable building operation and optimal facility management.
An energy concept developed in-house should enable the building complex to be operated in an almost CO2-neutral manner. The HEP centre was completed in 2022, went into operation at the end of 2023 and offers space for around 700 workplaces.
