New administration building with modern clinker façade

The turnkey-ready construction of Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung VBG’s new main administration building in Hamburg marked the starting signal for the first project executed by the new Department of Large-Scale Building Construction Projects at PORR Deutschland. PORR Design & Engineering GmbH was responsible for closing the gap between the performance phases 3 and 4 and for execution planning (performance phase 5).

VBG’s new headquarters, providing space for some 680 employees, is built in the 5,150m² Barmbek sub-district in the south of the Barmbek-Nord district, between Drosselstraße in the north and Krüsistraße in the south. Permit planning was provided by the Hamburg-based project developers ECE, concept planning came from the architectural office of APB. Architekten BDA, also from Hamburg.

The administration building’s ground floor is planned to house retail and service outlets as well as restaurants. The ground plan of the five-storey perimeter block and that of the 15-storey office high-rise with its gross floor area of some 35,400m² allow for the flexible separation of individual floors into different units of usage. The underground car park’s two levels provide space for approx. 280 cars.

The building’s clinker façade, interrupted by window elements of different sizes, perfectly blends in with the brick architecture typical for Barmbek.

The building’s developers strive to achieve a gold certification in accordance with the usage profile “New office and administration building 2012” of Deutsche Gesellschaft für nachhaltiges Bauen e.V. (DGNB).
