Administrative building with office, commercial buildings and service spaces

New administrative headquarters in Hamburg-Barmbek

The building complex was constructed on the site of the former bus station in Hamburg-Barmbek and combines office space for around 680 employees with retail, service and catering facilities on the ground floor. ECE was responsible for the planning and approval process for the complex, which has a gross floor area of around 35,400 m².

Building complex comprising a high-rise and perimeter block development

The building consists of a five-storey perimeter block development as well as a 15-storey office tower. The office spaces allow for flexible layouts within each storey and can be adapted to various workplace concepts.

The building is complemented by two levels of underground car park with around 280 parking spaces. The parking spaces as well as the technical infrastructure form part of the overall concept for the administrative site.

Clinker brick façade reflecting the local context

The façades have been finished with textured clinker brick surfaces as well as window elements of varying sizes. The design draws on the brick architecture prevalent in Hamburg-Barmbek and defines the building’s external appearance.

Accessibility extending to the wayfinding system

The building and access points have been designed to be accessible. Inside, a tactile wayfinding system complements the developments. It assists blind and visually impaired people in finding their way around the building.

Planning and construction from a single source

PORR and pde Integrale Planung GmbH worked closely together on both the planning and construction phases. The scope of work included construction as well as planning services for architecture, building services and detailed design.

DGNB certification

The new building was awarded the DGNB Platinum certificate.

New use for a former bus station

With the VBG headquarters, an administrative complex comprising office, retail, service and catering spaces has been created on the site of the former bus station. The project comprises office workspaces for around 680 employees, a high-rise building, underground car parks as well as the associated technical and infrastructural facilities.
