Campus Tower Hamburg HafenCity

An ensemble of offices and flats with a two-storey underground car park and a 56 m high tower building is being built on construction site 80 at Hamburg's Baakenhafen. The work is subject to the strict requirements of the gold HafenCity eco-label.

Special civil engineering formed a joint venture with Eggers Tiefbau GmbH for this complex construction project. Eggers is responsible for explosive ordnance detection, earthworks, dewatering and the clean layer. PORR Spezialtiefbau was responsible for the excavation pit enclosure and foundations. The alternative of a broken-up bored pile walls with inserted plug-in beams provided the decisive cost advantage over the competition.

Partial displacement bored piles were installed from April to November 2016. isg carried out two static test loads for the 80 mm piles. Different and sometimes unusual conditions at the site boundaries required four different systems to secure the construction pits. In the area of the abutment of the Baakenhafenbrücke bridge (west), old foundations were drilled through and a detached, two-layer back-anchored bored pile walls with inserted plug-in beams were constructed.

A soldier pile shoring with back anchoring was constructed to the neighbouring buildings in the eastern section. A concrete seal was constructed in the lower section to separate the water-bearing layers. In the south-eastern section there is an old quay dating back to 1888, where sheet pile walls were pressed in to extend the seepage path from the harbour basin.

To the north, the bored pile walls had to be constructed with diagonal bracing against the base slab due to the tunnel of the U4 underground railway line located directly behind this section. For this reason, Hochtief Building began constructing the base parallel to the excavation in order to create the stiffener supports.

The earth was then excavated between and under the stiffeners. The stiffeners were then removed after completion of the ceiling above the second basement floor.
