Modern extension building for the BG Clinic
The BG Clinic Bad Reichenhall specialises in the treatment of occupational diseases of the respiratory tract and skin. The clinic also accommodates a centre for the treatment of psychological trauma.
Due to the increasing numbers of patients and developments in treatment methods, a new and modern clinic building is being constructed on a second part of the site with an area of 4,000 m2. The new build will contain 51 patient rooms and some new central facilities for the entire clinic complex. The BG Clinic Bad Reichenhall awarded the turnkey implementation of the extension building to PORR Germany.
The new build is linked to the existing building via a bridge at second floor level, that serves as the main circulation route for patients and staff between the two buildings. The external design of the new build is characterised by areas of white and light grey render combined with a stick system curtain walling and large window and balcony door elements. The generous glazed areas afford views of the natural setting and mountains around Bad Reichenhall.
In future, some of the central areas, like the new prestigious and generous double-height reception area, will be accommodated in the new building. The new reception area leads through the waiting room to the new central atrium, a four-storey space which provides access to the building with staircases and lifts.
The new restaurant area serving the whole clinic can also be accessed from the atrium. In the servery area there is a section for cooking demonstrations with an integrated grill station and induction wok. A glazed facade links the dining area to the garden and terrace. The patients’ dining hall has a seating capacity for 228 people. Adjoining the dining hall is a separate staff dining area with seating for 44, which also has access to the terrace.
The events hall on the top floor is a striking single element superimposed on the main body of the building that cantilevers out on two sides and which differs from the rest of the facade through the use of high-quality elements. The large panoramic window running almost the entire length of the hall provides breath-taking views of the mountains. The 160 m2 conference room can seat up to 160 people. In addition, there is a smaller meeting room with an approximate area of 40 m2. Of the total of 51 patient rooms, 42 have their own balcony or terrace. The entire new build is designed for barrier-free level access.
The interior design takes up the scenic diversity of the mountains around Bad Reichenhall, allocating a different natural or cultural theme to each floor of the clinic according to their height in the building. To create a pleasant and comfortable ambience, interior finishes have been selected that are both typical of the region and as far as possible, of natural origin.
