One of the final phases in the reconstruction of the Düsseldorf-Süd motorway junction.

Since 2013, Autobahn GmbH Rheinland has been expanding and converting the Düsseldorf-Süd motorway junction and the A46 between the junction and the Düsseldorf-Eller access point in several stages. In one of the last phases of the construction project, PORR Verkehrswegebau Münster/Dortmund connected the newly constructed junction structures.

The Düsseldorf-Süd motorway junction is one of the most important transport hubs in the triangle formed by the cities of Düsseldorf, Wuppertal and Cologne. Due to the sharp increase in traffic volume, the Düsseldorf-Süd motorway junction and the A46 between the junction and the Düsseldorf-Eller access point were expanded and converted. Between the Düsseldorf-Süd junction and the Düsseldorf-Eller access point, the motorway was widened to six lanes.

With the opening of the ramp and trough structures to traffic, the traffic flows from the A46 coming from Düsseldorf onto the A59 in the direction of Cologne and the access from the Düsseldorf-Eller junction in the direction of Wuppertal will in future be separated and routed independently of each other.

The project is characterised by a fast and open exchange of information.

‘The construction project is technically very complex and also requires detailed coordination between all parties involved, since the traffic routing has to be partially adjusted in daily cycles,’ explains project manager Sanel Ceric. “Fortunately, the cooperation with the project team on the client side is extremely efficient. All important information is exchanged quickly and easily, so that we can react spontaneously to changing requirements,” he continues.
