Sustainable road construction material on the B115

Energy saving in asphalt paving through low-temperature asphalt

With the beginning of the summer holidays in Brandenburg, construction work also started on the B115 in Groß Kölzig up to the Jocksdorf junction. Significant road damage requires renewal and reinforcement of the asphalt. Oevermann Verkehrswegebau, a PORR company, was commissioned by the State Road Authority to carry out this work in a joint venture on a test section for the use of temperature-set rolled asphalt. The special feature: The use of low-temperature asphalt in conventional and compact construction saved energy and CO2.

Longitudinal and transverse cracks, rutting and cracking of the asphalt on the federal highway 115 in the south of Brandenburg are now a thing of the past. Starting in July 2022, the Münster/Dortmund road construction branch rehabilitated the section of road between the junction in the direction of Groß Kölzig to the Jocksdorfer junction in a joint venture. The rehabilitation of the last construction section started in September, so that the completion was realised on schedule by mid-September.

Sustainability and asphalt road construction
The asphalt paving was carried out using low-temperature asphalts in a conventional and compact construction method with the InLine Pave method. Here, the paving was carried out in a particularly economical way. The method increases the longevity of the road with a stable bond between binder and surface course. The use of low-temperature asphalt saves energy and releases fewer emissions. At the same time, it is said to provide the same performance as conventional asphalt.

Quality controls and adherence to deadlines
Special processes are subject to special controls: Aerosol measurements, thermoscans, Troxler measurements and area-wide dynamic compaction control ensured flawless quality assurance for the construction work on the B115. At the same time, the schedule was always kept in view. The first two construction sections were completed on schedule in mid-August. The work on the last section was also fully on schedule. Now, traffic can flow smoothly again on the renewed and reinforced roadway.
