Despite its difficult budgetary situation, Baden-Württemberg continues to invest in education and science. The new building on the Braike campus is intended to sustainably strengthen research and teaching in socially relevant fields. The new building will be constructed on the Braike campus and will combine the various art and theatre therapy locations. It will cover around 4,000 square metres and provide modern, sustainable premises for lecture theatres, studios, theatres and seminar rooms, as well as workshops and offices. With the new building, the campus aims to promote short distances and interdisciplinary exchange in the future.
A. Waggershauser Straßenbau GmbH has a wide range of services. Existing sewers on the new campus site have to be diverted during the construction work. The construction team is creating temporary diversions to ensure that wastewater can continue to flow during the construction work. A rainwater and a wastewater sewer currently run through the planned building, and these must also be replaced by two new sewer pipes. In addition, a new rainwater connection to the sewer in Schelmenwasenstraße has to be created.
The team will also lay a new water pipe, as well as parts of a district heating pipe, to connect to the existing network. A protective media route will also be created as part of this. A. Waggershauser's contract also includes the demolition work, as well as the earthworks and the subsequent roadworks.
The challenge of the construction site
Special care is required during the construction work. Archaeological finds have been discovered on the site that must not be damaged. Therefore, the excavation work for the new channels is carried out under the supervision of an archaeological construction supervisor. The construction team must also take care not to damage the embedded concrete fragments near an adjacent work of art.
The location of the construction site also presents the team with challenges. Since the construction site is located at the entrance to the Braike campus, heavy pedestrian traffic is to be expected at all times, which makes the delivery and collection of building materials more difficult. In order to minimise disruption to the university's daily operations, the entrances must remain accessible at all times.
