Munich, 17.05.2021 – Qualified employees are wanted and valuable in the construction industry. It is therefore all the more important to promote and motivate young talents and young professionals. This is the principle that the special civil engineering company Stump-Franki, a subsidiary of PORR, has taken to heart. This is the eighth year that Stump-Franki has honoured selected students and engineers with the “Edgard-Frankignoul Sponsorship Award”, established in memory of the inventor of the Franki pile. This award honors outstanding achievements by students and young engineers in the field of piles and pile foundations.
Three sponsorship prizes worth a total of € 7,000 were awarded again this year
The winner of the 1st prize was Claudia Fierenkothen from the University of Wuppertal, for her dissertation “Numeric simulations and laboratory tests regarding the spread of fresh concrete in bored piles”. 2nd prize was claimed by Philipp Wiesenthal from the Technische Hochschule Lübeck, for his Bachelor project “Developing a software tool for dimensioning pile dolphins using the p-y method”. 3rd place went to Fabian Remspecher from TU Berlin, whose dissertation was entitled “Effects of installing piles on granular soil”.
Presentation of certificates this year in a small, personal setting
Sadly, due to the pandemic, it was not possible this year to award the prizes at the TU Braunschweig Pile Symposium. Instead, the certificates were handed to each of the prizewinners individually in April 2021, in mini-ceremonies complying with all Covid-19 regulations. Stump-Franki congratulates all three winners for their superb entries.
The prizewinners will present their work to the public at the TU Braunschweig Pile Symposium in February 2022, providing the pandemic situation at that time allows.
