The data for the ‘Germany's Best - Sustainability 2024’ study was collected from several hundred million online sources such as news sites, websites, social media channels, forums, testimonials and blogs. Between May 2022 and April 2024, a total of around 3.4 million mentions of almost 15,000 companies from more than 80 sectors were collected. Positive and neutral assessments were included in the study results, as were the number of mentions in an industry comparison, as well as the perception of companies as ecologically, economically and socially responsible. Around 3.5 million mentions of around 15,000 companies between July 2022 and June 2024 were identified for the ‘Excellent Sustainability’ study by the F.A.Z. Institute and also analysed in terms of their tonality and range in the categories of ecological, economic and social sustainability.
In each of these three sub-categories of sustainability, the test winners had to score above average in their sector. In the ecological sustainability category, for example, mentions of the handling of natural raw materials or environmental protection counted. The economic sustainability category included assessments of resource-saving production methods or CSR, while aspects such as integration and inclusion or health and safety at work were important in the social sustainability category.
Claude Jeutter, Technical Managing Director of PORR Germany, sees the award as an incentive: ‘As a responsible company, we recognise the huge impact our industry has on climate protection. We are also realising that sustainable action is becoming increasingly important when awarding contracts and looking for jobs. PORR therefore wants to be a pioneer and role model at all relevant levels and is taking action in various areas.’
In special civil engineering, for example, PORR is using lean Displacement piles to significantly reduce the consumption of resources. It is constantly working on the further development of environmentally neutral processes, usesCO2-reduced cements and emphasises short delivery routes when ordering materials.
Another important component of sustainable construction is building certification systems such as DGNB or LEED. PORR accompanies its customers from the formulation of target values for building properties in accordance with the desired quality seal through to marketing, as well as documentation during planning and construction. In order to have the company's activities audited by external experts, it strives for sustainability ratings such as ISS ESG or Eco Vadis.
