Pedestrian and cycle path connects Johannisthal and Adlershof

On behalf of long-standing client Hentschke Bau, PORR Verkehrswegebau Berlin is building a footpath and cycle path in the Berlin district of Treptow-Köpenick. It will connect the car-free districts of Johannisthal and Adlershof. The main structure of the construction project, which was awarded by Berlin's own development agency WISTA.Plan, is a 74-metre-long aluminum truss bridge.

As part of the overall contract, PORR Verkehrswegebau is responsible for constructing the earth ramps on both sides of the bridge.

The Adlergestell road in the south-east of Berlin, which is around 12 kilometers long and has 6 lanes in places, is the longest road in the capital. The railroad line to Görlitz and the S-Bahn line 6007 run parallel to it. From autumn 2024, a new pedestrian and cycle path with a path width of 4 meters will cross both the Adlergestell and the four railroad tracks at Sonnenallee, thus better connecting the two neighbouring districts of Johannisthal and Adlershof. The light metal bridge structure is being built by general contractor Hentschke Bau. The aluminum superstructure was lifted into place at its final destination in January 2024.

As part of the overall contract, PORR Verkehrswegebau is responsible for the construction of the earth ramps and access roads on both sides of the bridge as well as the basic expansion of the footpath and cycle path to a width of 4 meters through the allotment garden area 'Am Adlergestell'. "Keeping to the budget and schedule is our top priority for this project. I am very proud of our team, whose many years of experience, structured approach and commitment are impressive across the board," says senior site manager Christoph Ritze.
