In June 2015, the groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of construction on one of the most extensive transport projects in Magdeburg: the "Ernst-Reuter-Allee railway overpass" construction project. In order to replace the dilapidated railway bridges, PORR Ingenieurbau was commissioned to build the new railway overpass at Magdeburg's main railway station. In future, a total of five railway bridges and two tunnels - constructed with a cover - will separate the car traffic, the tram line and the pedestrian flows. This will eliminate a previous bottleneck between Damaschkeplatz and the Otto-von-Guericke-Straße intersection. The so-called Magdeburger Citytunnel is scheduled for completion at the end of 2022.
About 34,500 m³ of concrete were used. Around 5,000 t of steel were used. About 48,000 m³ of earth excavated in the tunnel. 93 floor slabs produced. 243 walls, trough walls and retaining walls were built.
Now it's done: the "last wall" was concreted on 27 January.
PORR Germany is working shoulder to shoulder with colleagues from PORR Polska to complete the project by the end of 2022.
