Why did you decide to pursue a career in the construction industry?

I had already completed two internships at PORR during my school days. There, I got to know above all the versatility of the construction industry and the diversity of the professions within the industry.

What does a typical working day look like for you?

I don't really have a typical working day. Of course, there are tasks that crop up every day, such as answering e-mails and phone calls. However, the larger tasks depend heavily on which phase of the billing process we are in. Occasionally, I am also given some special assignments. For example, this year I was responsible for organising and supervising the welcome day for new apprentices and dual students.

What have been your highlights so far?

My highlights so far definitely include the weeks I was able to spend at the office in Munich, because that meant I was also able to get to know my colleagues there in person. I also always have a lot of fun at the team and company parties.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

What I enjoy most about my job is the variety. I have contact with many different people and authorities, all of whom have different concerns.

What do you do to switch off after a long day?

There are two options. Either I still have enough energy and desire to do sports, or I stay at home and cook something nice. If I can still motivate myself to do sports, I prefer to play football or padel tennis.

Do you have any good tips for learning?

Personally, I learn best with regular (written) repetition. To do this, I create summaries or index cards for the content and go through them again and again. If I have enough time, I not only go through the answers in my head, but also write them down. This helps me a lot with memorisation. And of course, start early enough (even if I don't always manage that myself).

Thank you for the interview, Lara.

We at PORR are proud to be able to celebrate successes like these with our apprentices. Because construction is a people business and growing together is part of our daily work. We place great value on our apprentices learning the theory of construction in practice – step by step. Always at their side: our experts, who support them with their many years of experience and practical expertise.
