Warsaw/Vienna, 8 January 2018 – PORR has started the year 2018 in Poland with two new contracts with a total value of around EUR 148m (PLN 621m). The company has been awarded the tender to build a flood detention reservoir in the area of the River Neisse as well as a section of the S7 expressway from Mława to Strzegowo.

PORR S.A. is building one of the four planned sections of the expressway S7 in the Mazovia region in Poland. The contract was signed with the General Directorate for National Roads and Highways (GDNRH) and is worth around EUR 106m (PLN 446.2m); it covers a 21.5km section of the Mława-Strzegowo route. The design-build project is co-financed by the European Union.

The S7 links the major metropolitan areas of Gdansk, Warsaw and Krakow and will serve as one of Poland’s most important routes upon completion. “In 2012 our staff already successfully built an 18km section of the S7. With the new order, PORR S.A. is once again underlining its technical expertise in infrastructure”, said Karl-Heinz Strauss, CEO of PORR AG.

Flood defences in the south of Poland

Having completed two modernisation projects to enhance the flood defences in the drainage basin of the River Neisse, PORR has been awarded another tender in this area. The company will erect a flood detention reservoir in the valley of the Goworówka stream in the Roztoki village for the Regional Water Management Board Wrocław (RWMB Wrocław). The World Bank is involved in financing the investment.

“Construction of the reservoir should bring direct benefits in the form of flood protection for the village of Roztoki and support the existing Boboszów reservoir in Bystrzyca Kłodzka that suffered in 1997 during one of the most severe floods in Poland”, said Piotr Kledzik, Executive Board Member of PORR S.A.

The reservoir has a length of 750m and a maximum height of 15.5m and will be completed within 32 months. The contract includes redirecting and regulating the riverbed of the Goworówka and Nowinka streams. The scope of services also includes sealing the bottom of the reservoir with a watertight valve and building overflow and release devices.
